Best IVF Treatment in Hyderabad

IVF stands for In-Vitro Fertilization

Fertilization is a process involving the fusion of an egg and a sperm to form an embryo. This naturally happens in the fallopian tube.

In IVF, a woman’s eggs are fertilized with the partner’s sperm in the laboratory.

IVF is the most advanced and effective fertility treatment available today.

The IVF Process explained step by step:

The active phase of an IVF treatment takes place in the first two weeks of a cycle and involves several steps:

1. Ovarian stimulation-Typically, medications (hormonal injections) are given from day 2 or 3 of the cycle for 10 to 14 days to stimulate the growth of multiple follicles in the ovaries The follicles grow in size throughout the course of stimulation. Each follicle potentially contains an egg.

2. Monitoring – is done to assess the response to medication and adjust the doses. Blood tests are done to assess the hormonal levels and a follicular study by ultrasound is done to measure the size and number of the follicles. Different women will respond differently to the medications and so, one type of medication or dose is not suitable for every woman.

3. Trigger– A trigger injection is given for the maturation of the eggs when the follicles reach a certain size.

4. Egg collection– Eggs are retrieved through a minor surgical procedure 34-36 hours after the trigger injection. Under ultrasound guidance, through the vagina, the doctor uses a needle connected to a suction device to gently aspirate the follicular fluid which will contain the egg. This is a day care procedure done under sedation/anaesthesia to minimize discomfort. The patient is observed for a few hours and sent home the same day.

5. Semen collection– The husband will be asked to provide a fresh semen (sperm) sample which is processed in the lab and used to fertilise the eggs. A previously frozen sample or a surgically extracted sample can also be used when indicated.

6. Egg Fertilisation. The mature eggs are then identified, separated and are then combined with the sperm in the lab to form embryos. The following day, the eggs are checked to confirm is fertilisation has taken place. Not all eggs collected are mature and not all mature eggs fertilize.

7. Embryo development – The embryos are carefully cultured /grown in very controlled conditions in the laboratory for 3- 5 days in the incubator. A day-2-3 stage embryo is called a cleavage stage embryo and a day-5 stage embryo is called a Blastocyst. All the fertilized eggs may not continue to develop into good-quality embryos. The growth and development depend on the quality of the eggs and sperm. The patients are informed regarding the progress of the embryo growth.

8. Embryo Transfer- The doctor and the embryologist will decide when it is best to transfer the embryo(s) to achieve the highest chance of a successful pregnancy. After 3-5 days of culture, the embryos are graded according to their external appearance and one or more of the good-quality embryos are transferred into the uterus in the same cycle if there are no other factors adversely affecting the outcome. This is called a Fresh embryo transfer.

In this procedure, the doctor slides a thin soft catheter through the cervix into the uterine cavity and gently releases the embryo(s) under ultrasound guidance. The procedure is usually painless and does not require anaesthesia. The patient can be sent home after 30 minutes.

9. Embryo Freezing – The surplus embryos if any can be frozen and utilized if and when necessary, in a later cycle and such a transfer is called a frozen embryo transfer. If the condition of the uterus or the hormonal levels of the patient is not optimal for a fresh transfer, the doctor will recommend a Frozen embryo transfer in a subsequent cycle.

10. Hormonal Support – Medication is prescribed for a period of 14 days for hormonal support which the patient can take at home.

11. Pregnancy test – Pregnancy happens when the embryo(s) are implanted in the lining of the uterus. A blood test is performed 2 weeks after the embryo transfer to check for levels of S.BHCG.

12. Review with the doctor– The S.BHCG report is interpreted and according to the result, the patient is guided for further follow-up.

Are there any side effects of IVF Treatment?

IVF, as with any medical procedure, has its own set of risks and complications.

However, with careful monitoring done by a well-trained and experienced specialist, these risks are minimised.

The possible but uncommon complications include:

  • Multiple pregnancies which increase the risk of premature birth
  • Miscarriage
  • Ectopic pregnancy — this happens when the embryos implant outside the uterus
  • Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS), a dangerous but rare condition in which the ovaries are over-sensitive and respond excessively to the hormones, causing them to enlarge, become painful and result in water retention in the abdomen and rarely in the lungs in severe cases.
  • Infection in the pelvis or damage to the bowels and bladder during egg retrieval.

In some cases, these additional procedures may be used when indicated :

-Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) to improve the fertilization rate.

-Laser-Assisted hatching (LAH) of embryos increases the chance of embryo attachment to the lining of the uterus.

-Embryo cryopreservation (freezing) to allow for the future potential use of good quality embryos.

2Which is cheaper IVF or ICSI?

In terms of cost, ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection) is generally slightly more expensive than traditional IVF (In Vitro Fertilization). This is because ICSI involves the additional step of manually injecting a single sperm into each egg. The cost difference can vary depending on the fertility clinic and location. It's best to consult with a fertility specialist or clinic to get accurate pricing information and determine which procedure is most suitable for your specific situation.

3Which infertility treatment is best?

The best infertility treatment varies depending on the individual's specific circumstances. The most appropriate treatment is determined through a thorough evaluation by a fertility specialist, considering factors such as the cause of infertility, age, medical history, and any underlying conditions. Treatments may include lifestyle changes, medication, intrauterine insemination (IUI), in vitro fertilization (IVF), or other advanced assisted reproductive technologies. Consulting with a fertility specialist will help determine the most suitable and effective treatment option for your specific situation.

4What is the cost of female infertility?

The cost of female infertility treatment can vary widely depending on the underlying cause of infertility and the specific treatments required. The expenses may include diagnostic tests, medication, consultations, surgical procedures, fertility treatments (such as IUI or IVF), and any additional procedures or services. 6How long does IVF take to get pregnant?

The timeline for getting pregnant through IVF can vary for each individual. Generally, a complete IVF cycle takes approximately 4 to 6 weeks, including ovarian stimulation, egg retrieval, fertilization, embryo development, and embryo transfer. After the embryo transfer, it usually takes about 10-14 days to determine if the procedure was successful through a pregnancy test. However, it's important to note that successful pregnancy rates can vary, and multiple IVF cycles may be required for some individuals to achieve pregnancy.

7What is the process of IVF pregnancy?

The process of IVF pregnancy typically involves the following steps:
1. Ovarian Stimulation: Fertility medications are administered to stimulate the ovaries to produce multiple eggs.
2. Egg Retrieval: Eggs are retrieved from the ovaries using a minimally invasive procedure under sedation.
3. Fertilization: The retrieved eggs are fertilized with sperm in a laboratory, either through conventional IVF or Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI).
4. Embryo Development: The fertilized eggs develop into embryos over a few days in a laboratory setting.
5. Embryo Transfer: One or more embryos are transferred into the uterus through a thin catheter.
6. Pregnancy Test: A pregnancy test is conducted approximately 10-14 days after the embryo transfer to determine if the procedure was successful.
It's important to note that this is a general overview, and the specific details of the IVF process can vary depending on individual circumstances and the protocols followed by the fertility clinic.

8What age is IVF most successful?
